Steve Forbert

Steve Forbert

Steve Forbert's debut album, Alive On Arrival, became one of 1978's most acclaimed records. Rolling Stone contributing editor David Wild recently reflected that “now or then, you would be hard-pressed to find a debut effort that was simultaneously as fresh and accomplished,” comparing it to “a great first novel by a young author who somehow managed to split the difference between Mark Twain and J.D. Salinger.”

Forbert's second album, Jackrabbit Slim, released in 1979 achieved RIAA Gold record status on the strength of its hit single “Romeo’s Tune,” which reached #11 on the Billboard charts and helped cement his status as a genuine craftsman. Jackrabbit Slim was re-mastered and re-released in 2019 by Blue Rose Music to commemorate its 40th anniversary.

He has released 20 studio albums, including a GRAMMY-nominated tribute to Mississippi legend, Jimmie Rodgers. In 2017, An American Troubadour: The Songs of Steve Forbert was released, featuring renowned musicians like John Oates and Robert Earl Keen, performing his songs.

Steve Forbert’s songs have been covered by a wide range of artists, from Keith Urban and Rosanne Cash to Marty Stuart and John Popper.  Steve Forbert also appeared opposite Cyndi Lauper in her 1983 iconic music video for ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’!

Backed by the same band that appeared on his collection of cover songs, Early Morning Rain, in 2020, Steve Forbert fills his latest album Moving Through America with songs that are every bit as spirited as "Romeo's Tune.” The album marks the latest chapter in a story that's still unfolding, with Forbert serving as an elder statesman of Americana music while continuing to create music that's spry and steadfast.

In early 2020, Della Mae released HEADLIGHT - a studio album dedicated to celebrating powerful trailblazing women. While the pandemic made it impossible to tour that album, the band continued to play together, and they returned to touring in Summer 2021 with another new album release FAMILY REUNION.

The hot jazz and Western swing trio Hot Club of Cowtown, from Austin, Texas, blends the traditional 1930s Western swing of Bob Wills and Milton Brown with European hot jazz traditions from the same era. The band writes its own material and also reinterprets everything from hoedowns to American songbook standards in its unique, original style.

Inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame in 2004 and voted Ameripolitan Western Swing Group of the Year in 2015, the Hot Club of Cowtown has toured with Bob Dylan and represented traditional American music throughout the world, from Azerbaijan to the Sultanate of Oman, on behalf of the U.S. State Department. After fourteen well-regarded studio albums and a devoted global following, it is the relentless passion of the band’s live shows that remain its continuing trademark.

"This trio's stylistic genesis--as well as title--stems from the realisation that the great heritage of strings (guitars and violins) originates mutually with the Manouche gypsies of France and the no-less virtuosic hillbilly pickers and fiddlers of Oklahoma and Texas....the threesome of high- heeled violinist Elana James, guitarist Whit Smith and bassist Jake Erwin showed from the beginning that jazz and country music could exist together on the same page, a highly commendable achievement if ever there was one.— Will Friedwald, Wall Street Journal
